Indonesia's Mt. Rinjani Ascent Claims Life of Brazilian Climber
Indonesia's national Search and Rescue Agency (SAR) confirmed that the climber, identified by the initials JDSP, fell into the ravine last Saturday. Challenging weather conditions and the site's remote terrain delayed rescue efforts, and her body was only reached on Tuesday.
Muhamad Hariyadi, head of the Mataram SAR Office in Lombok, stated that a member of the team finally reached the victim around 18:00 local time on Tuesday.
"After an initial examination, no signs of life were found on the victim," Hariyadi stated.
According to SAR, the woman had been hiking with six friends and a local guide, using the Sembalun route. Their climb began early Saturday morning. At the Cemara Nunggal rest point, the victim reportedly became fatigued. The guide advised her to stay behind and rest while the others continued toward the summit.
When she failed to rejoin the group, the guide returned to the resting spot, only to discover she was missing. Fearing she had fallen, the group quickly alerted authorities for emergency assistance.
